The Courier Business Events is an organisation that hosts some of the most prominent events in Tayside and Fife, ran by DC Thomson in association with Henderson Loggie. The showpiece annual event is the Business Awards, preceded by the Business Conference and various briefings throughout the year, chaired by local business people.
The design of the organisation lacked visual consistency and overall hierarchy. In order to solve this, we needed to develop a design system to unify the brand and sub brands that can be easily adapted year on year.

Simplified Design System
Each event looked different with various logos, colours and levels of hierarchy. We started with the aim to simplify, unify and modernise the visual identity.
The common visual elements were the ubiquitous Courier masthead logo, the brand blue and the stylised 'C' shapes. We decided to build on these instead of starting completely from scratch.
The new simplified C logo represents business pathways as well as being a plan view of the rows of seating in an event space. By using a geometric grid, we were able to develop a design system, creating unique logos for each sub brand and attributing single contrasting accent colours.
